In a recent address, President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the significant advancements expected in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, emphasizing their potential to transform the future dramatically. She noted that the Indian government is actively working to incorporate AI into higher education, which is crucial for preparing students for the evolving job market. The Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, has already taken steps in this direction by launching relevant courses in 2023.
Murmu also stressed the importance of ensuring that the benefits of technological advancements reach marginalized communities. She cautioned innovators to consider the traditional knowledge of local communities, suggesting that sometimes, simple solutions can be more effective than complex technological interventions. This approach aims to create a more inclusive environment where everyone can benefit from the changes brought about by AI.
During her visit to BIT Mesra, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary, President Murmu expressed pride in the institution's achievements in science and technology. She inaugurated an exhibition showcasing innovations, including AI-enabled robots and self-driving cars, and encouraged the youth to remain enthusiastic and committed to building a developed India.
