SES and SpeQtral have joined forces to improve global cybersecurity by developing a new method for secure communication called Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). This partnership aims to create an Optical Ground Station (OGS) that will connect Asia and Europe, allowing for safer data transmission over long distances. By integrating their satellite systems, both companies hope to make QKD services more accessible and affordable for users around the world.

The first OGS will be established in Singapore, which is already home to various quantum technology projects. This station will work with satellites that orbit about 500 kilometers above the Earth, forming essential links for secure communication in a future where quantum computing is becoming more prevalent. The collaboration is expected to fill existing gaps in QKD service availability, making it easier for businesses and individuals to utilize this advanced technology.

SES is also leading a project called EAGLE-1, which aims to provide early access to long-distance QKD for ultra-secure data transfers. Meanwhile, SpeQtral is working on two satellites designed for QKD, with support from Singapore's space industry. Both companies are optimistic that their partnership will lead to significant advancements in cybersecurity and create a more secure communication landscape globally.
