LG Electronics has successfully implemented an artificial intelligence (AI) system in its commuter buses, which has significantly improved driver safety. The initiative, tested on 14 long-distance buses operating between LG's Changwon plant and nearby cities, has led to a remarkable 70% increase in driver safety scores. This improvement is attributed to real-time monitoring of driver behavior, which has effectively reduced instances of dangerous driving.

The results of the AI system are impressive, showing substantial decreases in risky driving behaviors. For example, illegal U-turns dropped by over 80%, while violations of traffic signals decreased by more than 64%. Additionally, the frequency of distracted driving, such as using a phone or smoking while driving, also saw significant reductions. Most notably, incidents of drowsy driving fell dramatically, with reports of such behavior dropping to zero by November.

Encouraged by these positive outcomes, LG Electronics plans to expand the AI safety solution to all its long-distance commuter buses across various locations. The Korea Transportation Safety Authority aims to collaborate with government bodies and private companies to promote the adoption of this technology in other commuter services, enhancing overall road safety for everyone.
