OpenAI has recently announced a significant change in its plans regarding the release of its artificial intelligence models. Instead of launching the standalone o3 AI model, the company will now focus on developing a unified GPT-5 model. This new approach aims to simplify the user experience by integrating various capabilities into a single model, allowing users to access different tools without needing to choose between multiple options.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, explained that the upcoming GPT-5 model will combine the features of the previously planned o3 model. This means that users will no longer see the o3 model released separately. The goal is to create a more intuitive AI that can understand when to apply different types of reasoning, making it easier for users to interact with the technology.

Additionally, OpenAI is revamping its subscription model. The GPT-5 model will be available to all users, with free-tier users receiving unlimited access at a standard intelligence level. Those who subscribe to ChatGPT Pro will enjoy enhanced capabilities. Before the launch of GPT-5, OpenAI is also preparing to release the GPT-4.5 model, which will be the last of its kind before the new unified approach takes effect.
