The Polish military is set to enhance its reconnaissance capabilities with a fascinating new technological addition: the Tarantula. These unmanned ground vehicles are named after the spider's remarkable ability to navigate and sense its environment, and they're designed to do much more than a human soldier could in challenging battlefield conditions.

These robotic vehicles are not a completely new concept in military technology. In fact, the use of robots in armed conflicts dates back nearly a century, with early prototypes emerging during World War I and becoming more sophisticated during World War II. Countries like France, Germany, and Russia have long experimented with remote-controlled vehicles for various military purposes.

The Polish military plans to introduce 96 of these Tarantula robots over the next two years. Developed by the Łukasiewicz Research Network, these vehicles are specifically designed to support soldiers in high-risk frontline situations.
