Beijing is set to host a groundbreaking event that sounds like it's straight out of a science fiction movie: the world's first humanoid robot half marathon. This unique competition will feature 21 teams of advanced robots competing on a challenging course through the city's innovative technology parks.
Each participating robot brings something special to the race. The largest competitor, called 'Tiangong Ultra', stands an impressive 1.8 meters tall and weighs 52 kilograms, capable of running at speeds up to 12 kilometers per hour. In contrast, the smallest robot, 'Little Giant', is just 75 centimeters tall. The robots will start at one-minute intervals, maintaining a minimum distance of one meter from each other to ensure fair competition.
The race isn't just about speed – it's a complex challenge with specific rules. Robots must complete the half marathon within 3.5 hours, and any team replacing a robot during the race receives a 10-minute penalty. Judges will closely monitor the competition, even wearing audio and video recording equipment to ensure compliance. The winning team will receive a prize of 5000 yuan (approximately $970), with additional awards for endurance and popularity.
