In the world of shipbuilding, a technological revolution is quietly taking place at HD Hyundai Samho. The company is transforming its traditional manufacturing processes by introducing collaborative robots that are changing how ships are built. These robots are not replacing workers, but instead working alongside them to make the production process more efficient and less physically demanding.
The robots are particularly impressive in welding tasks, where they can complete complex jobs inside tight, difficult-to-access spaces. By using these robots, the company has significantly reduced the time needed to assemble ship blocks – cutting production time by one to two days. The robots can perform welding tasks at a skill level comparable to a human worker with over ten years of experience, and they do so with remarkable consistency and precision.
Looking forward, HD Hyundai Samho has ambitious plans to expand robotic automation. Their goal is to increase the automation rate in outdoor work from 10% to over 50% within three years. They're not just focusing on replacing human labor, but on creating a collaborative environment where robots and humans work together to improve productivity and reduce the physical strain on workers. The company is even exploring more complex robotic applications, such as working on curved ship blocks with varying angles.
