The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC) is excited to announce the launch of new majors focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI). With the recent approval from the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, students can now pursue either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in AI. This initiative aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of AI, catering to both STEM students and those from liberal arts backgrounds.
The AI program will offer various options, including a certificate, minor, and both comprehensive and non-comprehensive majors. The comprehensive major is designed for students who are more inclined towards math and computer science, while the liberal arts major is more accessible, requiring only basic statistics. This flexibility allows students from diverse fields, such as business and humanities, to engage with AI and enhance their skill sets.
In addition to the technical aspects, the curriculum will emphasize the importance of ethical considerations and human interaction with AI technologies. Courses will focus on making AI algorithms understandable and transparent, ensuring that students grasp the broader implications of AI in society. UWEC is proud to be a pioneer in this educational endeavor, aiming to equip students with the knowledge and tools to navigate the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.
