Estonia has announced an exciting new initiative to introduce the use of chatbots in schools, aimed at both students and teachers. This program will provide access to popular AI tools, including an educational version of ChatGPT, to help students develop essential digital skills. The initiative, called "AI Leap," is set to begin on September 1, 2025, with 20,000 high school students and 3,000 teachers participating initially.

The Estonian president, Alar Karis, emphasized the importance of adapting the education system to the changes brought about by artificial intelligence. The program is expected to expand to vocational schools by September 2026, potentially reaching an additional 38,000 students and 3,000 teachers. Education Minister Kristina Kallas highlighted that preparing young people for the AI era is crucial for Estonia's economic competitiveness.

This initiative is a collaboration between the private and public sectors, with discussions already underway with American AI companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. The goal is to ensure that students are well-prepared for future job markets, and Estonia is already recognized as one of the top countries in the world for ChatGPT usage. The program aims to create a model that other countries may follow, enhancing the educational experience for both teachers and students.
