Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is stepping up to meet the growing demand for professionals in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). With the establishment of its new College of Computing, GVSU is now offering degree programs specifically focused on AI. This initiative is a response to the significant increase in job opportunities related to AI in West Michigan, where job postings have surged by 338%.
The university's Dean of the College of Computing, Marouane Kessentini, emphasizes the importance of aligning education with industry needs. To ensure that students are well-prepared for the workforce, GVSU has collaborated with over 160 industry partners to design its new AI programs. These programs include both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in AI and software engineering, providing students with the skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing technological landscape.
One of the courses offered, CIS 365 – Applied Artificial Intelligence, allows students to engage with current tools and languages to tackle real-world AI challenges. GVSU's commitment to innovation and education aims to equip the next generation with the knowledge and experience needed to thrive in the evolving job market.
