Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor has recently launched the first 'AI factory' in Norway, which is designed to help organizations process sensitive data securely within the country. This facility, powered by advanced Nvidia GPUs, aims to support Telenor's sustainability initiatives while providing AI solutions to various sectors, including logistics and public services. Initially built to meet Telenor's own AI requirements, the factory has now opened its doors to external clients.

Telenor's Chief Information Officer, Kaaren Hilsen, highlighted the rapid development of the AI factory, which went from concept to operational in less than a year. The company is also planning to establish a new data center in Oslo that will utilize renewable energy and repurpose excess heat for local residential heating. Hilsen emphasized the importance of building data centers sustainably, especially as the demand for computing power and data storage continues to grow.

In collaboration with power company Huisman and renewable energy investor HitecVision, Telenor is committed to creating a modern data center that aligns with its environmental goals. This initiative reflects a broader trend in the tech industry, where companies are increasingly focused on sustainability and responsible practices in the face of climate change.
