JD Logistics, often referred to as the “Amazon of China,” has developed an incredibly advanced smart logistics center that showcases the future of warehouse technology. Located in Beijing, this massive facility can process up to 720,000 packages daily, preparing for the upcoming 618 shopping festival – a major online shopping event in China.
The logistics center is a marvel of modern technology, utilizing artificial intelligence and robotics to streamline the entire shipping process. Automated robots called “Dirang” (meaning “ground wolf”) can handle up to 250 orders per hour, continuously sorting and moving packages along conveyor belts. These robots have helped increase warehouse storage capacity by an impressive 300%, demonstrating how technology can dramatically improve logistics efficiency.
Unlike other Chinese e-commerce platforms that operate as open marketplaces, JD Logistics operates more like Coupang in Korea, directly purchasing and storing inventory before shipping. They’ve implemented a sophisticated “211” delivery system that ensures packages ordered by 11 AM are delivered by 11 PM the same day. The company uses advanced AI to predict consumer demand by analyzing trends, seasonal changes, and previous sales data, allowing them to optimize their inventory and prepare for upcoming shopping events.
